Lack of comprehensive field testing by the manufacturer

Part of the problems with cylinders stems from the lack of field testing. Manufacturers with less experience in milking parlours have no idea how terribly heavy the application is and develop a cylinder on paper that has not been field tested for years.

On paper you can design a nice cylinder, but the field test should be decisive. 

200 cylinders, tested for 3 years

MelQ has tested over 200 cylinders on milking robots for three years and the results have been fantastic: no failures, made 433,000 cycles so far, and no more than minor and occasional corrosion, and the tests are ongoing! After almost 30 years in milking parlours, we do know what we are doing.
