Global suppliers are vendors with worldwide coverage. They have many branches and are present in the major industrial regions across the globe. Excellent companies with excellent products and excellent people. Many exporting machine builders choose these global suppliers. They do so because of the local availability of replacement parts — but these global suppliers come with a price tag.
As an engineer or purchaser, you can significantly reduce costs on your pneumatic package with global products: products that are interchangeable worldwide in both form and quality, thanks to ISO standards. This increases both your competitiveness and your profit margin.
But why aren’t there any global suppliers for bolts and nuts? The reason is that these are available worldwide and are all produced according to the same standard. A DIN or ISO number in the bill of materials, thread size, length, and finally the tensile strength — and that’s it. This makes it a true global product: one that is available on every street corner worldwide and described exactly (according to standard).
If you apply ISO standardisation to your pneumatic components, you can save up to 20% on purchasing for the majority of your machines without any issues. Nearly all pneumatic components are defined in ISO standards, specifically to optimise market dynamics and interchangeability. Valves and cylinders are fully standardised and can be seamlessly interchanged one-to-one worldwide, giving you a major advantage.
For example: specify an ISO 15552 – 80 x 250 cylinder, and you can purchase from more than two hundred manufacturers worldwide. Add “PU seals” for a premium-quality sealing solution, and you’ll have a high-performance cylinder with a service life equal to any brand.
This way, you save substantial amounts on purchasing, and your international customer can rely on the local dealer to supply the same cylinder in their own country, thanks to ISO standards. You benefit from the best purchase price with maximum competitiveness, while your customer benefits from the wide choice of local suppliers.
If your sales team communicates this vision to your customers, they will not only appreciate your pragmatic product approach but will also be able to seize the same cost-saving opportunities themselves. The concept of global products does require that you know how to specify and assess the products correctly.
The ISO 15552 standard defines relevant dimensions of pneumatic cylinders and mounting accessories from Ø32 to Ø320mm. This standard has been active since 2004 and replaces the older standards ISO 6431 and VDMA 24562. The main advantage of the ISO 15552 standard is that cylinders of all manufacturers with this standard are interchangeable.
Q Plus has included the following series in its range:
This standard defines the dimensions of small round cylinders Ø8 - Ø25mm, also known as mini-cylinders. It also contains dimensions for four mounting accessories.
The first version is similar to ISO 6432 in terms of construction, but is not standardised. Also in the dimensions, many sizes correspond to other brands.
For the second version, the construction method differs from ISO 6432. Also in the dimensions, different brands are not interchangeable.
Q Plus offers the following series:
This standard defines the relevant dimensions of pneumatic compact cylinders from Ø20 to Ø100mm. The matching mounting accessories correspond to those of ISO 15552 cylinders so that they too are generally interchangeable.
The ISO 21287 is the successor to the Unitop and is preferred due to its interchangeability. However, the ISO 21287 and Unitop are not interchangeable due to the dimensions.
Q Plus has included the following series in its range:
ISO 8139 ball heads (rod eyes with spherical bearing) ensure optimum interchangeability and also provide you with cost savings.
ISO 8140 covers the sizes and threads of clevises (rod eyes). Many materials and pin assembly methods are available.
